To help offset carbon emissions produced from the shipments of all deliveries we make Gusto and Co has partnered with Pachama; a California based tech company using AI to drive carbon capture and protect global forests. For every dollar Gusto and Co invests with them 80 cents goes directly to their forestation projects—more specifically, the people who own the land and are protecting the trees. E-commerce shipments account for over a third of shipments and deliveries in the US and while offsets are not a replacement for taking actions to reduce our carbon footprint—they are a last resort to compensate for emissions we can’t currently avoid.
Currently, our offset investments are going to the Jari Pará Forest Conservation Project in the Amazon rainforest a REDD+ project. This project is monitored by Pachama using machine learning, satellite imaging, and remote monitoring technology to protect ecosystems, restore forests, and improve carbon markets.
